The Benton Museum is happy to announce that this portion of The Wave will continue to ripple and flow through our Atrium for many years. At each site, new participants who work on the piece, add their own contributions to the ebbing and flowing wave. The Wave, as a work of art, travels from site to site and the elements are reconfigured. When we pollute the ocean waters off Australia, acid rains fall on the plains of Africa. The morning mist rising from a pond on UConn’s campus, for example, can become a part of a tsunami wave in Asia or part of an ice crystal on an iceberg in Antarctica. We are all impacted-physically, politically, and economically-by natural disasters and climate changes that alter access to water, endangering health and well-being. Because we all share the oceans and fresh water sources that sustain life on earth, we are intimately connected to one another. The primary goal of this work is to call attention to the critical importance of water in our lives and to recognize our shared responsibility to protect this vital resource. Titled The Wave, the work remained on view through December, 2017 after which it was disassembled.
